Small Business Website Design - How to Get Professional Results on a Shoestring Budget

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

Just because you are a small business with an even smaller website design budget, does not mean that you cannot have a professional looking website and presence on the web. All it means is you will have to do some of the work yourself instead of paying some design firm to do it for you. Amazingly enough, self designed pages from small business owners who did their research frequently end up being better and more focused than professionally designed pages. Consider the following suggestions when designing your own website.

Suggestion #1 - URL

First of all, your URL is very important and since it is the address to your website and what everyone will use to find your place on the web you need to put some careful consideration and thought into it. You don’t want to come up with a URL that already exists as a .com and register it as a .tv. If you do this, you will just lose customers to the com. Likewise, you don’t want to register a URL that has nothing to do with your website or content either. Be thoughtful and register a URL that pertains to your services or products, is as short as possible, and is spelled easily.

Suggestion #2 - Host

The next thing you must do is find a web host. Since you are on a shoestring budget you will be tempted to save money and go with a free host. Do not do this. Do anything you have to do to convince yourself that free is not always better because in this case it is not. Frequently the free sites don’t get indexed by the search engines, they don’t provide much space or bandwidth, and since they are free you can’t do too much about it when the site is down or you went over your visitor limit. Instead, find an affordable host and there are many for under $10 per month, offer decent bandwidth, storage space, e-mail services, as well as other tools you need.

Suggestion #3 - Professional Templates

When it comes to designing your site, many hosts have tutorials and wizards that will help you do so. However, you will want your site to be as professional as possible so keep this in mind when choosing colors and the like. Also, use professional templates that you can buy or download for free online. They will give you the professional appearance you want for free.

Suggestion #4 - Text

When it comes to loading text on your website make sure you break it up into small chunks, use bold words, bullets, numbers, and anything else that you can think of to make it more readable. Avoid small fonts, light colors, or strange texts. Also, remember that the search engines use keywords in your text to return results, so be sure to include keywords in your text as well.

Make Your Web Site Stand Out

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

When visitors add your web site to their Favorites or bookmark your site, what shows up in their list of sites? There are at least two things you can do to make sure your site stands out on anyone’s list of Favorites, including a great idea that very few sites use. If you have a webmaster, he or she should be able to make these changes quickly, and those who maintain their own sites can easily handle these simple tasks.

First, make sure each page of your site has a good title. When you view your site in Internet Explorer or Netscape, what shows up at the very top of the screen? If it says “Home Page” or, even worse, “Untitled,” that is what visitors will see when they include your site in their Favorites. Use “title” tags and add a title that describes the page.

And here’s the thing very few sites do: Add a favicon file so that next to your site title in the Favorites list (and in the address bar when they go to your site) your logo appears instead of the ubiquitous Internet Explorer logo. (In Netscape, your logo will only appear in the address bar. The Netscape bookmark icon will be next to your site name in the bookmark file.) This is easy and quick and adds a real professional touch to your site. To see what I mean, take a look at my site. Go to http://www.IdeaLady.com/ and click on “Bookmark this page.” (Netscape users, press Ctrl + D.) Then, open your favorites file and click on the IdeaLady link. You should see my lightbulb logo next to the title in your Favorites list (in IE) and next to the URL in the Address Bar (Netscape and IE).

For a good how-to article about creating your own favicon, go to http://www.webdevelopersjournal.com/articles/favicon.html. There is software called Irfanview that can easily create the favicon.ico file for you. Download it free (commercial users are asked to send $10) at http://www.irfanview.com/ It is easy to use, and can be used for a variety of graphics functions, in addition to creating your favicon.ico file.

Make your site stand out from the rest!

Understanding Search and Design Leads to Better Search Engine Results

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

The problem, however, is that many Web designers still cannot grasp the purity of Google’s laser-like approach to search. It is the purity of this search that connects Web sites to one another.

Let’s look at a case study of a public relations agency.

Design Matters
In the case of Virginia-based Rourk Public Relations, www.rourkpr.com, the challenge was to communicate with potential clients using just the right balance of text content and Web graphics. Using Google as a search engine benchmark during the design phase, a good Web site designer understands that Google uses text content to index or list a Web site in the appropriate category. Another factor is a Web site’s locality. Have you listed your address, city, state, zip and phone with area code in “text form” throughout your Web site? This helps Google determine regional factors as they apply to your search engine ranking. Usually the best place to position this is in the footer or bottom of your Web site.

Rourk Public Relations features a nice balance of graphics and text with ample white space for readability. The design is striking, yet clean and easy to read. A Web site need not fill every inch of white space for the sake of filling up the browser space. If you’re still not convinced, look at Google’s home page.

Content is King
Search engines love content. In the Rourk Public Relations’ web site there is a ‘Team’ section with short bios and pictures. David Rourk, the agency’s president, shared with me that one of his clients found his Web site when searching for the advertising agency Barker Campbell Farley & Mansfield. This search result was due to text within one of his team member’s biographies. Unfortunately, this competitor’s Web site was not found by the user, most likely due to the fact that their Web site is not correctly optimized for search engines.

Write meaningful, informative copy about your business. Write well-formed paragraphs that are error free. Google fine tunes its search algorithm daily. They have teams of coder-programmers who work to make Google 2nd to none in terms of pure search. So don’t write copy for search engines, write copy for your visitors. Talk about your company, your business, what you do.

Copywriters Can Increase Your Search Rankings
Writing great copy is no easy task, so it is well worth the investment to hire a good copywriter that will make your site sing and help elevate it to the first or second page of major search engine rankings. Rourk Public Relations has written copy for several of my Web clients with outstanding results. You may be the brains of your business, but you may not be a wordsmith. Hire a good copywriter. Competition on the Web is tough. You need to put your best foot forward if you want to tap into the billions of dollars that well designed and written Web sites are generating.

You have no doubt seen ads on the Web or in your email titled Top 10 Ranking Now or Drive Tons of Traffic to Your Web Site. Don’t be fooled. There are no short-cuts to driving traffic to your Web site. It takes a keen understanding of search engines through years of study and the correct design and text to get to the top.

Broadband Deals Spread Throughout Europe

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

From gas suppliers, to mobile phone companies, the EU is not afraid of anyone - not even the mighty Miscrosoft, one of the largest companies in the world. Research has revealed that the broadband industry in Europe, however, has nothing to fear.

Europeans are signing up for Broadband Deals faster than ever before. High-speed Internet services are growing in popularity because intense competition from broadband providers is continually driving the product’s exposure in the marketplace to new highs, and prices to new lows.

As a result, it is estimated that up to 8 million UK households will have broadband by 2008. Overall, the rate at which people are signing up to broadband providers is constantly increasing, thanks largely to the high level of competition in the telecoms industry. It seems the EU is right - competition is good for consumers.

This feverish competition is forcing telcos to mount aggressive marketing campaigns in order to make consumers aware of their broadband services. At the same time, broadband access has improved on a geographical basis as well as a technical basis, making it available to a larger pool of potential customers. Some telcos are also advertising very high broadband speeds to attract power users. The competition has also led to telcos lowering prices in a bid to undercut rivals.

Because of the real competition between telcos offering broadband, the EU has not interfered on a trade practices level. It has, however, issued a ruling that mobile phone and broadband access is not to become a right for all European citizens. Currently there is a universal service obligation that covers fixed landline telecoms that exists to ensure that every European has access to landline service if they want it. According to the EU, this obligation will not be extended to cover broadband and mobile phone services.

This is of little concern to broadband providers. In some European countries the consumer broadband market is growing by 10% a year. While this is expected to peak in a few years time, there is still a lot of money to be made for the telcos in the immediate future. With the number of online services increasing each year, and film and television programmes soon to be legally streamed into every household with a fast enough broadband deal, the market still has plenty of life left in it.

Let’s hope the competition continues, and our monthly broadband bills do not mimic our ever-increasing gas bills.

MAKE SERIOUS MONEY WITH GOOGLE ADSENSE

Monday, December 29th, 2008

The advent of personal computers have stimulated the power of self-publishing (or the act of producing and putting ones own writing into circulation) by allowing publishers to easily modify the settings of type and designs at a cut-rate price.

With the dawn of the World Wide Web, it has been possible for publishers to not only adjust designs but also to promote their works and market them all over the world. These works could also be published online at a very minimum cost.

Now, with the arrival of Google AdSense, self-publishers worldwide are in for the revolution of a lifetime.

Google AdSense is a new marketing program launched by Google.com, one of the most popular search engines on the Internet. It is a program that offers a simple and quick way for publishers to make money.

And the good news is, this is not only for publishers but also for ANYBODY who has an online site.

Notice that every time you use the Google search engine to look for a particular keyword phrase, you see little boxes on the right side of the search results pages on your computer screen that are relevant to the keywords you have just searched for. These Sponsored Links are actually paid ads from website owners whose aim is to direct potential customers to their website, and they pay Google whenever their ad gets clicked.

Now with Google AdSense, everybody can display these same ads on their own website and get a certain percentage of what Google receives from the advertisers every time someone clicked on them. This enables website owners to focus on maintaining and enhancing their website’s content pages while generating revenue at the same time.

The first thing to do is to apply for the Google AdSense program. It is not difficult to be in the program, but note that NOT every web site is accepted in it.

After you have signed up and Google has accepted your application, you can already put the Google code on your website and start the revenue stream.

The good thing about having the Google AdSense is that it offers you another amazing opportunity to maximize your earnings aside from the Google ads displayed on your website: the Google Search.

The Google Search box serves as a portal that links your site to the Google web. Adding this to your website not only gives your visitors instant access into Googles entire keyword inventory, but it also enables you to earn more money because the Google search is run from your website, the Search Engine Result Page (SERP) is tagged back to you, so you will surely earn whenever your website visitors click on these AdSense ads.

Aside from the great income opportunity, Google AdSense also has the following features and options to offer to its users:

Search Options You can modify your AdSense control panel to configure the Google search box and control the scope of your users search. You can choose to have your visitors search just your website or the entire Google network, or even provide them with buttons that let them perform either search. Its your choice.

Personalization Aside from the standard Google search box, you can also have a customized look and feel of the AdSense program by adding your own logo and making the search box match your websites color scheme with over two hundred colors available.

Online Support Of course, will not leave you and your AdSense program without any help or support. In fact, Google will even serve as the host of your internal site search result pages for you at no cost no need to worry about buying an extra bandwidth or disk space from your Internet Service Provider.

Aside from this, Google will also provide you with online tracking and reporting tools. This will enable you to see how well your own search box is doing for you, including your list of queries, number of clicks and click-through rate, and total earnings.

Google AdSense has truly started an online revolution that has far-reaching effects and impact: it has introduced a revenue stream that actually sets up a website for success. Now, website owners finally have a way to both generate revenues and enhance their content pages.

So for anyone looking to make money with his or her websites, make serious money with Google AdSense.

Uploading Your Website with FTP

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

Once you’ve created your website, you’re going to need to upload it to your web server. The easiest and fastest way of doing this is using FTP.

What’s FTP?

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It’s a standard for transferring files quickly and easily between computers, intended to allow computers with different operating systems to exchange files without users needing to worry about the different file systems they use. Compared to HTTP, transfers over FTP are very reliable, meaning that your upload will not just fail without telling you, and you can pause and resume any upload you start.

To connect to an FTP server, you need three things: the FTP server’s address, a username, and a password. Your web host should have provided these to you when you opened your account, or you may also be able to create one yourself using your website’s cPanel. Check your host’s help for more information.

Before you can use FTP, you need an FTP program. Luckily, you have quite a few choices.

Internet Explorer

What, Internet Explorer? Yes, IE actually has an FTP program built in. Just go to your host’s FTP server using a URL with ftp:// instead of http://, like this: ftp://ftp.example.com. You will be asked to enter your username and password, and then you’ll be presented with a view of the files and folders on the FTP server, just like if they were on your own computer! To upload files, all you need to do is drag them from wherever they are now into this window.

So what’s the problem? Why not just use IE for all your FTP uploading needs? Well, unfortunately, the answer is that it isn’t very reliable as an FTP program: it works, but it’s very slow, and won’t automatically try things again if it runs into errors. It also lacks a good way of telling you how far along your uploads are or giving you much control over them - fine for uploading one or two files, but not so great when it comes to uploading a whole website.

CuteFTP

CuteFTP (www.cuteftp.com), by GlobalScape, was one of the first useful graphical FTP programs for Windows, and is still popular. It supports resuming, scheduling transfers in advance and multiple transfers at once, and also has the useful feature of allowing you to quickly edit files on the server using a built-in text editor. It costs $40, or you can get a Pro version with more features for $60.

WS FTP

WS FTP (www.wsftp.com) is another old, established FTP program, but recently became a lot easier to use than it used to be. Some useful features include its various wizards and tutorials for doing common things, editing files on the server using any software you like (a rare feature) and sorting options that let you find files quickly. It also has special features to help you out with blogging and digital photography. Cost: $60.

BulletproofFTP

BulletproofFTP (www.bpftp.com) is an FTP client that does a lot of things automatically - it’s clever when it comes to handling common situations in a good way, where other FTP programs can often do things you wouldn’t want or constantly ask you to confirm things. However, the interface is looking a little dated now, and it costs $30.

SmartFTP

SmartFTP (www.smartftp.com) is my personal favourite FTP program. Why? Well, it has a modern, easy-to-use interface. It’s updated often, and has almost all the features of the programs above, as well as very good support for queuing, proxies, backups, and some obscure things like chmod that you might need to do from time to time. Best of all, although it costs $37 for business use, it’s free for non-commercial or personal users.

FileZilla

Finally, if you want a completely free and open-source FTP program, FileZilla (filezilla.sourceforge.net) is worth a look. While the interface is simple and a little technical, it does most things you would want it to do, and is surprisingly fast and stable. If you want an easy to use program that doesn’t hide anything for you, then you could do worse than FileZilla - and hey, if you want it free, you don’t have that many choi

Why do search engines look for “inbound links” for ranking websites?

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

Dear friends, ranking high at the search engines for a keyword which has high demand is every marketers dream. No matter what your website about, a fully loaded super store or a hobby site, you need traffic and search engines have a capacity to provide an unending supply of thousands of visitors (if your niche has that much demand) at zero cost.

Actually it would be wrong if we say that search engines send traffic at zero cost. There is a price you need to pay to rank high and that’s TIME. Yes, it takes time to reach there. (especially at Google)

there are many factors that undergo a normal Search Engine Optimization exercise and building “inbound links” is considered one of the most challenging tasks involved today. To understand better why search engines look for inbound links, let’s take a real life example.

For a moment forget the Internet, forget you website/search engines anything that has to do “ranking high”, just read this small story.

There was a young boy Jim, about 21 years old. He was a fantastic painter. He painted in water colors on canvas. His favorite subjects were landscapes, natural beauty, mountains, etc…He could spend hours painting and playing with colors. Colors were his passion, his life.

He lived in a small village that was away from a major metro city. With a small population, no one really visited this village very often. Jim was very happy with his passion of painting.

One day Jim’s uncle visited his home on a Sunday. When he saw Jim’s paintings he thought Jim has got an inborn talent of colors, of looking towards the surrounding beauty that he was able to capture on canvas. His was a special skill that very few people have. So he suggested Jim to move to the city to display his work to people out there. Jim assured him that whenever he gets the opportunity he would definitely make the best of it.

Then the golden day arrived. Jim was listening to a radio station, when he heard the announcement of an exhibiting of paintings to be held in the metro city. Jim thought this is what I was looking for an quickly rushed to the city at his Uncle’s place to arrange for the formalities.

Five of Jim’s paintings got selected and displayed at the metro city exhibition. He got a tons of post and is still getting from his fans and now the best part is he is making thousands of bucks just from a single painting. He is happy and wealthy too. His passion is keeping satisfied and now he is famous guy. The villagers are proud of having him in their village.

OK… now what’s this story got to do with SEO..you ask..

A lot…If you read the story again you will discover that Jim is already happy when he is in his village, spending most of his time with paints and brushes. But when he displays his work out to public, his work is admired by more and more people. It has to do with “numbers”. Again when no one knew about his talents, he still was a great painter, but now because now thousands of people say that “Jim is a great painter” his value becomes magnified thousands of times.

Now if Jim launches his website on water color paintings where do you think it must rank.. You see, it’s a numbers game. Of course it’s also important that who recommends Jim as a great painter. But Jim doesn’t care, he’s already taken all the care for years polishing his painting skills. All he knows is producing great quality paintings for his customers which are ready to pay him truckloads of money.

There is a simple exercise to do. Put yourself in Google’s shoes, imagine that you are Google.com [:-)] and then look at Jim’s new website. If I am a regular Google user I will take all the care to see that my search results for the keyword “water color paintings” show up results that are best and most importantly recognized by experts in the art industry.

This is true for every search engine out there, including Yahoo! and MSN, because they want to retain their users.

Here “inbounds links” come into picture. The number and the quality of inbound links is the only way for the search engines to recognize the quality of the website it is supposed to rank. Of course as I mentioned there are many factors that a search engine will look for, but inbound links can have a major impact on your rankings.

Again if Jim wants his website to rank well for many years to come, he will have to keep on producing quality work just the way he is doing now. Most people think that search engines are money machines, just build a website, get is indexed and forget about it. But it is getting a long term goal now a days to rank high at the search engines. As I said it comes at the cost of TIME. If you are ready to go for it, creating traffic through search engines will be one of the most profitable skills you will ever learn in this lifetime.

I hope this article was useful….

Bring Your Visitors Back Clamoring for More! Maintain and Improve Your Web Site Weekly

Monday, October 13th, 2008

80% of your Web site is Maintenance!

Once your Web site is up, you must maintain it. Maintenance means changes, and each time you make a change, you may make a mistake. I’m really grateful when people point out my Web glitches, and I can be more proactive by checking my site each week.

If your visitors get a link that doesn’t work, see incomplete instructions, or read your dull instead of passionate copy, they will leave your site immediately, and not bookmark it.

Before you invite folks to see your masterpiece you need to check and correct all parts of your site, and especially the home page.

TEST YOUR HEADLINES. You have four seconds to get your visitor’s attention. Test your title or opening sentence of copy. This one item alone can make a huge difference in the responses you receive.

Instead of the wasted words “welcome,” put a benefit with a link to either a benefit story or sales letter about your product or the product itself.

When I placed “Quadruple your Web Sales in Just Four Months” with a “click here” to my sales copy following it, my Web sales increased ten times from my original home page, and this in only four months time.

People learned about my eBooks and Teleclasses on Write Your eBook or Other Short Book–Fast!, Ten Non-Techie Ways to Market Your Book Online, and Quadruple Online Sales in Four Months with Free Articles. In 2002, after being Online eight months, Web sales are consistently over $3000 each month.

If your headline doesn’t say benefits, the game is over.

TEST YOUR OFFERS. People perceive more value when you add an incentive to buy. Give them a bonus FREE report or a tips list with the order. It takes little time and effort to create, but it increases sales thirty-fold.

Each month, I motivate my visitors with “Discounts of the Month” available as a navigation bar on home page. In each discount I include testimonials and benefits, And perhaps a bundling of several books or teleclasses For a deep discount–often half price.

1. Testimonials. They lend credibility to you. When people see that other well-known leaders like your products or services, they are more likely to buy. It’s relatively easy to get these too.

Here’s a few that worked:

- “Save yourself from headaches, disappointments, and money down the drain. Read Write Your eBook or Other Short Book- Fast! before you write another word. The author puts you on the fastest track to publishing success.”

- “Wow! My sales letter worked! Thank you, thank you, thank you for presenting your 3-session teleclass “Create Your Homepage With Marketing Pizzazz.” You helped me focus on who my target market really is–a major accomplishment. Knowing the difference between benefits and features helped me produce a sales letter that got me a sale the next day I put it up on my site.”

- “In just one coaching session I learned how to strengthen my article’s language, got a perfect acronym for my coaching business, learned the difference between benefits and features, got a new bio/benefits statement to use for networking, and most of all the “bigger picture” to see a series of products and services to sell–definitely worth her fees.”

2. Benefit statements. Test your copy by emailing several groups in your address book with several choices. Call it a Survey. Ask them, which benefits makes their heart skip a beat? Enough to take out their credit card and buy. Emphasize different benefits. Try out different headlines, phrases, power words or metaphors. Appeal to different senses like smell, touch, emotions or visual. Remember most people are visual and kinesthetic.

Here are a few ideas:

For a book one client submitted these benefits: -Clean up the places of your life where you’re out of integrity -Create more time, energy, and passion in your life -Uncover your deepest values and honor them.

Another book’s benefits included: -Be your self in a world that wants you to be like everyone else -Develop positive expectancy to achieve real results -Procrastinate into your hearts desires -Balance work and home by mastering the joy of moseying

TEST YOUR PRICE. A price that is too low is as bad as a price too high. Too low a price devalues your product or service.

Potential clients or buyers might think, “If it’s that cheap, it must not be good.” One myth is that eBooks have less value than print books. If your book has information your one particular audience wants, you must price it accordingly. If your service is invaluable, be sure to charge what you’re worth.

Always start your prices high. Later you can offer a deep discount.

TEST YOUR COPY. Change testimonials or pictures every so often. Redo your opening page and closing page. Instead of “Subscribe to my ezine,” put a short testimonial from a famous person in your field right before the “click here” to subscribe.

Always give your visitors a reason to buy. Make your copy “you” oriented. Dan Poynter, author of The Self-Publishing Manual, said this about the free monthly ezine The Book Coach Says… ezine is chock full of useful information - totally worth your time.

Make your Web pages easier to read by using bullets. On my home page I put these questions in bullets:

“Let me help you answer questions about your book” What are the first steps to writing a great selling book? Will my book attract my desired audience? Will my potential buyers think my book is worth the money? Will my books sell enough copies for my satisfaction? Now that it’s written, how can I best promote my book?

Test the length of your copy. Check the size of your paragraphs. In general, keep them short, around 1-4 sentences. Imagine looking at a long line of print before you get to the meat? Discouraged, you would probably leave the page, and possibly the site!

Check for passive sentence construction too. Why? Because you slow your reader down with passives, and they want your clear, concise, and compelling information. Your spell and grammar check gives you those percentages at the end. If your sentences are more than 3-4% passive, you need a professional coach to check your copy. This article has 1% passive.

TEST YOUR SITE LAYOUT. Know where people are entering your site and exiting. Many companies out there can give you this service. If potential buyers keep leaving at a particular page before they go to products and ordering page, your words deceive, and some changes are in order. You can track: where your traffic is coming from, what pages visitors like, what page the majority of visitors enter and exit, and how long are they there, even which ones signed up for your eNewsletter.

TEST YOUR ORDER PROCESS. Ask friends and associates to run through different parts of your site. Show your appreciation by paying them for it with free product or service. Tell them you have a thick skin, and appreciate their honesty.

One would-be customer couldn’t finish the order for one of my teleclasses. It took a lot of effort to get that mistake rectified with some free product from me. I know a famous eBook author from whom I tried and tried to buy a book. I even emailed him about it. He said he didn’t take email orders and sent me back to where the problem was.

It’s much better to have all links work, so your customers will have an easy ordering experience. Also, be sure to offer your customers several ways to order. Not all people like to order on the web.

Know that your job of testing never ends. It’s what we call maintenance, 80% of life is maintenance! Just experimenting with these tests will bring more sales. Keep testing to know what your potential buyers really want.

How to republish RSS feeds on your website

Monday, October 13th, 2008

In this article I am going to cover some tools that you can use that will allow you to publish RSS feeds on your site. This will allow you to have fresh, updated content on your site and you have control of what sort of content you display and how often it is updated.

First off if you do not know much about RSS or feel you require more information take a look at this RSS publishers FAQ and then rejoin us again later.

There are several ways you can go about publishing RSS content, two of which this article will cover are using third party software that will take care of the RSS republishing for you. The second is to use some freely available PHP code to generate your RSS pages.

If you do not what PHP is or have little knowledge or PHP or programming then I would recommend that you use RSS Equalizer which takes care of the complicated stuff for you. RSS Equalizer produces HTML format pages that it has transformed from the RSS feeds it is using as its source.

RSS Equalizer is a PHP script that runs from your server so you will need to make sure your host can run PHP, most web hosts do. Once installed and set up RSS Equalizer can be left to parse content from the RSS feeds and produce a readable HTML format pages on your website.

If you have any programming experience or know a little PHP then there are some other free tools that you can use. These PHP scripts will allow you to parse RSS feeds and if you know PHP will give you more options for customisation. These tools are CaRP, Last RSS and zFeeder.

If you have the time and feel you can handle the PHP then the free PHP scripts above will be your best option. If you neither have the time or the inclination and want the hard work already done for you then try out RSS Equalizer, its not free but it’s the best option for the non programmer.

RSS Feed, Fresh Content & Better Ranking Results in more traffic

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. By definition, RSS is a light weight XML format designed for sharing content like news headlines, Blog entries and other webpage content. RSS is simply a popular and easy method of sharing content on the web.

It doesn’t matter what topic your website have built around, you can find valuable content available via RSS. Running and maintaining a website with fresh content is a full time job, it will require time and effort. I am not saying that you stop writing for your website I am telling you to take benefit from the modern technologies that are available.

As the competition is fierce and people use many tactics to increase their page rank which in result increase search engine position RSS feeds helps you achieve good rankings as more fresh content is available on your site.

A website with fresh content is crawled more frequently by search engines spiders. A simple formula: Fresh Content = Increase Search Engine Rankings = Increase Visitors = Increase Revenue

The formula above is simple and easy. If you have a website already running and you need fresh content for your website RSS feed is the prefect solution for you just a small piece of code and you have the site ready with fresh content.

RSS Feeds cannot be simply plug-in into any website you need a RSS Feed Reader to read the XML and display it in HTML format.
